Should I do my own wedding make-up or hire a professional?

I use MAC and Smashbox products and think I do a pretty good job on my everyday make-up and am back and forth if I should hire a professional to do my wedding make-up.

more details below if you need them:

The one I am considering does make-up for our local nightly newscasters( which sometimes looks heavy, but does look good) .

She uses MAC products.

I am not going for an overly dramatic look . My fiance would not like that and I do not want to look like a clown, but I do want my pictures to come out good and want to look special.

I went and had a MAC gal at the mall do my make-up for a party a few weeks ago and it was horrendous. I looked like a vampire hooker.

I am a little nervous about the make-up thing now and wondering if I should just pick special shadow etc . and do it myself. I am doing my own hair.Should I do my own wedding make-up or hire a professional?
Go in for another trial and tell them to tone it down and that you want something more natural looking. Take in a picture of a celeb's makeup that you want to copy so they have something to go by.

Personally, I would rather have a professional do my makeup since it is one less thing to worry about.Should I do my own wedding make-up or hire a professional?
yeah, if you're talented at makeup and you know what you like then I would definitely say to do it yourself.

the only other consideration is this: are your bridesmaids or maid of honour good at doing their own makeup? it would be terrible to look like a vampire hooker at your wedding, but it's almost as bad to be standing beside a bridesmaid who looks like a vampire hooker in your photos! if you cant trust the other girls, then maybe you should hire someone to do the whole wedding party's makeup.
At theend of the day it's your own personal choice. The way i see it is by getting somebody else to do it for you its one less thing for you to have to personally worry about yourself.

Most makeup artists offer a trial so i would really reccomend getting in touch with the makeup artist and bringing some pictures of what you are after (make sure the same person does the trial is the one that does your kaeup on the day) this way you can decide whether you are happy with it or not!
Before you decide on a makeup artist have them show you what they have in mind.

My best friend is a makeup artist and let me say every bride/bridal party I have seen looks 100% better. Sometimes they even have her come to the reception and keep everyone looking fresh.

It doesn't cost that much and I think it makes a world of difference.
Well you have to look at it like this... Do you want to look like you do normally with your make up in your wedding photos? Or all done up like you have never done that looks completely different from you?

Personally if you do a good job I would just do it yourself with your bridesmaids.
On your wedding day you should look like you! I would treat yourself to some new makeup (do at least one test run before the big day) and do it yourself. It may be one of the more relaxing things you do all day!
If you like how your make up looks day to day, then do it yourself. Personally I wouldn't risk looking like a vampire-hooker at my wedding =P

Congrats btw!
Okay well first off, you need to know that newscasters need more make-up than your average woman on the street. Both men and women use it, because with the intense lighting in the studios every flaw or skin imperfection would be made obvious otherwise. MAC is the standard for television make-up, though all anchors I know do their own - I've never heard of a make-up artist at a TV station...

/work in the industry.

Don't base this off of one experience. Bring a photo or example of how you want your make-up to look. Be very adament about what you want, and if you are unsatisfied in any way day-of, then let the woman know, so that she can correct the problem. I would recommend a make-up artist because your needs will be different than everyday. You'll be in a lot of photos and definitely want to look your absolute best, this is not an ';everyday makeup'; scenario.

You also said this woman isn't the one who made you look like a vampire hooker. Why not do a trial? To my understanding it's commonplace (just like bridal updo's) to do a trial in advance of the event.
