Wedding Make-up: need advice please!?

My friend is really talented with hair and make-up, and she offered to do mine for free as a wedding gift. I've taken her up on her hair offer, but i'm not sure about the make up. The problem is that I would have to buy all the make-up. All I own is mascara, brown eyeliner, clear lip gloss...and maybe a little bit of pinkish-gold eyeshadow. My friend and I have very different skin coloring, so none of her make-up would look good on me. I think that I could have someone in Nordstrom or Macy's do my make up for about the price of everything I would have to buy.

The dilemma is this: I know my friend would give me a simple but elegant look that suits me, and I'm afraid that someone who doesn't know me will pile it on and make me look like a clown.

Do the department store people do trial runs? Also, if any of you women have experience or advice, I would love to hear it.

Thanks!Wedding Make-up: need advice please!?
I would get your own makeup and have your friend do a trial run with it. Even though you do not wear a lot of makeup normally, you may be surprised and want to wear it more while on your honeymoon or if going out to a nice restaurant every now and then with your hubby.

Buying your own makeup does not need to be expensive. You just need a few things, a good foundation, a blush that can double as an eye shadow, possibly an eye shadow duo (one with a light color to highlight the brown line) and lipstick! Skip the eyeliner and lip liner and any other fancy stuff keep it simple. Lorielle and Maybeline have some nice but not to expensive options!

Also I happen to adore the Bare Minerals line, you can get this at a lot of higher end make up stores. It feels like you are wearing no makeup and looks very natural! (and lasts!) it's a bit more expensive but worth it!

I'm not a makeup person either, but it's less risky to buy your own. Then you don't have to worry about infections or anything else from unclean makeup applicators etc!Wedding Make-up: need advice please!?
I would get your friend to do it.

Even if you do have to buy makeup all it would be was concealer, foundation and lipstick. And you don't need the fancy expensive brands (I mean they are nice, but not essential) You can get concealers for $10, foundation for $20 and lipstick for about the same, and this is middle of the range, you can go cheaper if you want. When they do yur makeup at department stores they expect you to buy most of the products anyway, and they arn't the cheap brands.
i think the department store people do trial runs

but that is a bad idea anyway (u may end up looking bad)

have your friend do it, but keep it simple

if you don't wear a lot of makeup normally then don't overdo it on your wedding day
If your friend doesn't mind you should take her makeup shopping with you. Since she knows you best and knows how to apply makeup really well she will be able to help you choose the right colors, textures, etc...Artists at the counters can help you too therefore you'll have 2 people to ask for advice.

After you've purchased all the products make sure to do at least 1-2 trial runs. Have a friend take a picture of you if possible so that you can make any adjustments necessary.

good luck =D
I go to Macy's to get my make up done all the time for dances and I also went there to get my make up done for my senior pictures. I've never had a problem, and it is free. I've watched programs on television that advise that bride's should always get their make up AND hair done in advance and see how they feel about it before the big day. This way you can tell if you like what your friend has done or would rather have it done professionally. If you like what a person at Macy's or Nordstrom has done you can set up an appointment and have it done the day of your wedding.

I hope this helps. Congrats and best wishes =)
Definitely go to the mall and get it done. I was worried about getting it done there, but honestly, it's worth it (you just usually have to buy something- like a lipstick).

Depending on which make up provider you go to, you'll get a different look. For a really NATURAL and ELEGANT look, skip Mac and go to Bobbie Brown or Laura Mercier.

Good luck, you'll be a beautiful bride!
I would recommend just letting your friend do it ... you trust her and you have faith in the job she will do. Plus of which you do not have to buy expensive make up. If this is something you will not wear again then go cheap!

Some of the things, like foundation and powder, you should get the better one just for the lasting effects but the mascara and eye liner and everything will not cost as much.

The bonus also is that you can get ready where ever the wedding is being held. Then there is not the rush of getting through traffic and is something goes wrong with the appointment.
Just go buy the make up and consider a cost of the wedding. Seriously..... I've had people put on crazy make up on me (yes, Norstroms and Macy's). So... have your friend who knows you do it.
buy some make up that is nice ask ur friend to do it for u and she will put make up that makes u look better then ever.cuz shes ur friend, u cant always trust people at macys or nordstroms.
Macy's does yes, I wanted my makeup done for my graduation from DeVry...and I went, they told me in order to get a makeover i would have to spend 30 dollars on makeup..which was no big deal, I needed the foundation they were going to use (Double wear, it rocks) anyways....i brought in the color of shirt i was going to wear, and she did my makeup the night i bought the makeup and told me that I could come in the next day and have her do my makeup. They even used a little card to writ down what she used the night before ...and i looked great!

Good Luck hon!

I'm spending 325 dollars on airbrushing...but that includes my two MOH's
Do you really want to spend your wedding day sitting in a chair in the middle of a big department store with people walking all around you watching you get your makeup done? Just take your friend to a store with you to help pick out natural, classic colors for your face. It might cost a pretty penny (especially if you buy the ritzt expensive stuff), but it's always good to have makeup on hand if you want to doll yourself up another time. Go to Target even and get the makeup there. They have great brands at really good prices. You don't need to spend $40 on a lipstick for it to look good for your wedding. Good luck!
