Wedding Make up...Do it yourself vs. Professionally done.?

I hear mac is great make up and when taught how to properly apply will work well for my wedding. But Professionally applied is risk proof right? Which is a better idea?Wedding Make up...Do it yourself vs. Professionally done.?
check this out if you want to do it yourself, it might help you decide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLGJTAfyG鈥?/a>Wedding Make up...Do it yourself vs. Professionally done.?
Professionally applied is not risk-proof. As mentioned, professional makeup often looks overdone, and an inexperienced makeup artist might make up everyone up the same way - putting black mascara and thick black eyeliner on a redhead, for instance, making her look like a cut-rate Dita von Teese. That's not what most brides want, or most bridesmaids for that matter.

A good artist will use subtle tones that suit the subject's skin tones and hair colour and that will look good both in natural light and in artificial. Most good makeup artists will provide you with a demonstration of their skills before you book them. Even if it costs a bit, it's worth it if it weeds out the bad candidates.

If you do it yourself, you don't have to buy MAC. It's good makeup for the most part but its trendiness means it's expensive for what you get. Your local library should have a book by Paula Begoun called ';Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me'; that rates various brands of cosmetics. Brands are notoriously uneven, so buying by brand isn't a foolproof way of getting quality cosmetics. Most women mix and match brands - I use a 49 cent Wet 'n' Wild eye pencil that works just as well as the $8.99 Revlon pencil - no surprise, since they're both made on the same production line.
Professional....

I'm not too good with doing my own makeup. I can get by making myself look decent and good for everyday living. But, I would want my wedding makeup to be a little more special and I would want it to be perfect. So, I'd go to a professional.

Now, when I say professional, I don't mean someone at the makeup counter at the mall. I might as well do my own makeup, if that's the case. The people who work at the mall counters are going to sell you that one particular product or brand. They are also going to apply your makeup according to their brands style. MAC makeup is very dramatic, bright and a bit bold. When I pass by the MAC display in the mall, the girls always have this funky and crazy looking makeup on. Tha't great if you're going to a club or a funky party, but I don't think it's want that for my wedding.

Plus, those makeup counters charge you. You do have to buy their products, you just can't go there and have your makeup done and not buy anything. I'm not sure how much MAC makeup is. But, my favorite brand is NARS and one compact is like $32. So, if I bought a eye compact and say a lip gloss, I'm probably looking to spend about $60.

For $60, I can go to a local salon or spa and have a makeup artist do my makeup with an assortment of different makeup and tools. Lot of spa and salons offer that airbrush foundation too and you can't get that at the makeup counter.

Also, at the salon, you can schedule a trial with their makeup artist and sit down and consult about what you'd like to have done. They'll write everything done and talk to you. I don't think you'd get the same level of service at a mall counter. The mall makeup artists are there to help you sample the makeup and see if you'd like to buy it and take it home.

A makeup artist at a salon is someone who's attended beauty school and is working at the salon and who's specific job is to do your makeup, not to sell you anything.

Professional make-up is not risky, if you have the right people fixing you up and you schedule a trial before hand.
I prefer to get mine professionally done. Whichever you choose is a personal decision. MAC is said to be great for that type of thing. Just get a trial run beforehand so that you can decide if you like how the particular makeup artists apply it. You also have the option of having a freelance artist from MAC come to wherever you are getting ready if you don't want to go to them. But other brands are just as good if you prefer Sephora.
It depends. A make-up artist can make you look more like yourself and can make your make-up look good for the camera. Make-up on film looks different than it does for real life.

If you choose to do it yourself, don't go shiny or sparkly on the face. It often just looks oily in pics. Also practice and have pics taken of yourself in the make-up, so you'll know how it will look on your wedding day.
well I am really considering a make-up artist even though I can apply my makeup fine.

but alot of makeup artists apply makeup in a special way for photography (flash) and videos etc

I would practice doing you own makeup alot for your wedding day and go for a makeup trial with a makeup artist and see the difference, then you can decide from there
The way I made a decision was based on my skin type and the amount of time I needed it to stay on. I have oily skin and it feels like make up slides off my skin ever since I moved to Houston. I'm using airbrush make up. It is super, I mean super, expensive but the value and benefits outweighed the cost. It'll stay on for 16 hours and won't budge unless I wash it off with soap. It's flawless too which is great.

If you're like most people with normal skin I'd recommend MAC. I don't know if it's the same everywhere else, but here in Houston you can get an appointment and get a session done for free with the purchase of $40 in make up. You can just retouch when necessary and save money doing so.
My friend just got hers done for her engagement party (which is huge in the indian culture)...anyways, MAC did a test look first so that before the big day she liked her makeup....so it's a good idea to get your make up done. She looked good, but the make up was not ';natural'; what so ever...she didn't look like a drag queen or anything...it was just too shiny (for me anyways).

If you're good at it yourself or one of your friends is, do it at home..it'll save you money. Whichever way you decide to go, make sure you try out the look couple days before the event.
It depends on you, actually. For me, I'm going to do my own make-up. Everyone likes how I do my make-up and I don't want to look too different than how I normally look. If I decided to go with a pro I would go to them a couple of times to see if I like how they do my make-up before I had them do it for me on my wedding day.

I also know how to touch up my own make-up if it starts to become drab later in the evening. I just know that doing it myself will be better. =) Do what you feel is best for you!

Good luck!
I'm getting mine done professionaly. I've never been very good at doing my own make up in the first place. I figure if I'm already spending as much as i'm spending on the wedding I might as well throw make up in there too. It's the one day I want to look my absolute best. Just like one of the previous ladies said I am in Houston as well and the humidity here can wipe the make up right off of your face. I'm doing the airbrushing. Stays on 16 hours. The foundation, blush, eye liner and mascara is all waterproof. And I'm sure I'm going to need that! The lady I chose has several packages to choose from. The one I picked included a trial, engagement portraits session and wedding day. It cost $325 for all three. The best price I found when I was looking around.

But it really is up to what your preference is. Just keep in mind it's a one time thing so should you choose to splurge on having someone do your make up for you, I don't think you will end up regretting it.
I am getting mine done in the salon while I get my hair done. It's been amazing in all of the trial runs so far and I know I can't screw it up! I do great on an average day, but with my nerves, I'll have clown cheeks and raccoon eyes if I attempt it at home.

It can't hurt to get a trial run done just to see!

Congrats and good luck!!!!
Well it isn't risk proof, after going to several artist, sure it looked good, but I looked either plastic, old, or just plain not me.. I ended doing my own, and glad i did. just be sure to apply a bit more, just because cameras can make you look washed out... practice...
I am paying to get mine done. I am getting married in Vegas and I would rather pay someone to do it right than me fiddle around with new stuff and look like a clown. Plus sometimes you need extra makeup with the pictures but not too much. Pay the extra money.
i say do it yourself you dont want to look overdone and not like you on your big day.
