You can go to the department store and go to your fav makeup counter and ask for tips, they will be happy to give them and show you exactly how to apply everything. I did my sisters makeup for her wedding and we went to mac and got makeovers and they showed me great tips to use for her. For free
I did my own make-up for my wedding and it was a hit. Everyone asked me who did it...... want to know what I did?





First get three baskets.....doesn't matter what kind.... but big enough to hold some makeup. Mark them like this:


1. TO TRY


2. TRIED AND LIKED


3. DO NOT USE





I experimented early.....I mean by the time it was one month till the wedding, I knew which eye liner I would use, which mascara, which shadows and blushes and what's really important is lipstick.





I started about 5 months before the wedding.......I bought LOTS of different kinds of makeup......I mean a bunch. I had almost every brand of foundation out there. I put all the new makeup in a basket marked ';TO TRY';. Monday I would wear the first one......look at my face at noon and jot down notes in a journal about what I saw in the mirror after four hours of wear...... (most wedding and receptions last from 3-4 hours). I knew if a makeup didn't ';look good'; from 8AM till Noon then it wouldn't stand up for the whole wedding and reception process and I'd go home and put it in the ';DO NOT USE'; basket. If a foundation looked good but the eye shadow I'd tried that morning was creased I put the foundation in the ';TRIED AND LIKED'; basket while the eye shadow went into the ';DO NOT USE'; basket.





In about a month you'll end up with the ';DO NOT USE'; basket full of makeup that you've used once or twice (so what do you do with it.......give it to your nieces, or his nieces, or the teenages in your life).





You'll also end up with a basket of ';TRIED AND LIKED';. And then you can mix and match until you've pin-pointed the foundation you will use, the blush, mascara, eye shadow, liner, powder and lip color and lip shine. Once you've decided on these 8 exact items, put them in a box labeled ';WEDDING DAY MAKEUP'; and put it with your dress and shoes. This will likely wind up being the same makeup you take on your honeymoon......after all, at this point it's tried and true.





Pay close attention to your skin starting now.....the month before the wedding is not the time to try a new chemical on your face. Have your lip and eyebrows waxed at least 4 days before the wedding so that any redness and swelling or wax marks will be gone by your day.





Take a pictures of yourself wearing the different makeups and style and keep them in a folder on your computer so that you can get a 'birds-eye' view of how your face looks.





And here's the hugest tip of all...... make frequent visits to the place where the ceremony will be......the point is to check how your make up will look in the lighting of the place where the wedding will take place and the pictures will be taken. But only when you're weeding through the ';TRIED AND LIKED'; basket. You certainly don't want to settle on a foundation that looks great under florescent lights when you're getting married outside.





And finally, simply and classic is always best....it's not just about your face, it's about all of you and if your makeup is more noticiable than your dress, you've screwed up.
Host a Mary Kay Party. The consultant comes and does a make over and shows you how to apply your make up. You can try different colors and styles until you find what you like and buy want you want. You also get a discount and free items depending on how much other people at the party buy. I did it before my wedding and I was super happy!
Try not to overdo it. Go easy on the eyeshadow and remember it has to last all day. I'd seriously suggest going to a makeup artist though. It really does make a difference.

Don't overload yourself with things to stress about on your BIG day! There are 100 other things that can go wrong, but if you don't like your wedding day make-up, you are stuck with the pictures forever. You can go to Clinique or any of those places in the mall and they will do your make-up FREE! You can even have a pre-wedding consultation to make sure you like everything and you can sleep well on the eve of your wedding knowing you will look GORGEOUS! (just make sure the person doing the makeup is the same for the consultation and the big day) If anything, just buy the lipstick they use and you can reapply it through the day. You would spend money on wedding day make-up anyways, right?
Go to a makeup counter in a department store. They'll do your makeup for free(of course while trying to sell you stuff) but it will give you a good idea on what looks good and you can watch how they do it and what they use
go to chapters and get a book on makeup and copy some of the ideals. Just remember though only put the focus on 1 area if you really want your eyes to stand out then natural lips and if you want big bold lips than natural eyes
Try to look as natural as possible when putting your makeup on. Also because alot of brides tend to cry, buy waterproof makeup so it will not run if you do cry.
The best money I spent was having my makeup professionally done. I did it at the last minute, and had my hairdresser fit me in. Basically I told her what my everyday makeup look was, and she intensified it and gave it all-day staying power. It wasn't that much (about $45), and I would've spent at least as much had I gone out and purchased all the products she used. The only thing I had was my own lipstick.





If you can't or don't want to have it professionally done, I highly recommend any long-staying lip color with the clear coat seperate from the rich lip stain...it worked wonders, especially since I spent all day kissing relatives!
You have plenty of time to practice and perfect your techniques!





I did my own wedding for my make-up since between my wedding receptions and wedding day I dressed up 3 times in 3 different states/provinces and it didn't make sense otherwise.





I'd suggest you go to your favorite make-up counter like Clinique, MAC, Estee Lauder, etc, and ask them to do your make-up to give you some ideas for your wedding day. I had my make-up done professionally in advance, picked up the tips and bought a couple things from them (brushes, eye shadow, foundation) to make it worth their while.





I spent about $200 (it typically costs about $160 to have your make-up done for your wedding) on make-up but got a free tutorial and have been able to get a lot of wear out of the make-up, unlike if I'd hired a make-up artist.
